Nutcracker Workshop 2023

NUTCRACKER AUDITION PREPARATION WORKSHOP A & B (August 14-18)

Technique and pointe classes will be held for one week designed for advanced dancers wanting to be in top shape for Nutcracker auditions. Ballet Midwest’s Artistic Director, Lacee Sandgren, will teach these workshops. Workshop A will be from 7:00-9:00pm and is for advanced dancers, ages 14 and older with over 3 years pointe experience, including Ballet Midwest company dancers. Workshop B will be from 5:00-7:00pm with dancers that are intermediate/advanced, ages 12 and older with over 1 year pointe experience, including Ballet Midwest junior company dancers. Along with dance classes, audition choreography will be introduced to dancers as well as tips that dancers will use in their audition.

Ballet Midwest’s Assistant Artistic Director, Madison Meenen, will teach these workshops. Workshop C is for dancers who started on pointe in June and will be from 6:30-8:00pm. Workshop D is for dancers not yet on pointe and will run 5:00-6:30pm. Along with ballet classes, audition choreography will be introduced to dancers as well as tips that dancers will use in their audition.

EVENING CLASSES (Monday and Wednesday, June 3 – June 26)

Evening summer classes are available for students three years old through adult. Creative Ballet is for children ages 3 to 5 and is designed to develop coordination, self-confidence, rhythm, and introduce children to the love of dance. Elementary Ballet emphasizes coordination, flexibility, poise, and locomotor skills. Intermediate and Advanced Ballet classes highlight technique, body placement, and artistry. 

SUMMER BALLET WORKSHOP I  (Monday-Friday, 9am-11:45am, June 3 – June 21)
This three-week intensive is uniquely designed for advanced dancers, ages 14 and older with over 3 years pointe experience, including Ballet Midwest company dancers. In addition to daily technique classes, dancers will receive instruction in pointe, variations, stretching techniques, contemporary, jazz, and conditioning. Parents are invited to attend the final workshop class to see a demonstration of what the dancers learned. Participants may attend additional evening classes free of charge.

This three-week intensive is uniquely designed for intermediate/advanced dancers, ages 11 and older with over 1 year pointe experience, including Ballet Midwest junior company dancers. In addition to daily technique classes, dancers will receive instruction in pointe, stretching techniques, contemporary, jazz, and conditioning. Parents are invited to attend the final workshop class to see a demonstration of what the dancers learned. Participants may attend additional evening classes free of charge.

This three-week intensive is uniquely designed for intermediate dancers, ages 10 and older that started on pointe last summer, including Ballet Midwest junior company dancers. In addition to daily technique classes, dancers will receive instruction in pointe, stretching techniques, contemporary, jazz, and conditioning. Parents are invited to attend the final workshop class to see a demonstration of what the dancers learned. Participants may attend additional evening classes free of charge.

DANCECAMP I (Monday-Friday, 12:00pm – 2:00pm, June 3 – June 14)

This fun, two-week workshop is for students ages 7 to 11 years old. Along with daily ballet class, the dancers will study other styles of dance and learn about anatomy, music, nutrition, dance history, and dance vocabulary. They will see a full-length ballet video throughout the 2-week camp while enjoying a healthy snack each day. The camp changes yearly, so will be enjoyed by dancers who attended last year as well as new enthusiasts. Participants will make a book to take home at the end of the camp. Parents are invited to watch the final class of the session.

DANCECAMP II (Monday-Friday, 5:30pm – 7:30pm, June 3 – June 14)

This fun, two-week workshop is for students’ ages 4 to 8 years old. CLEARGOLD WORKSHOP (Monday-Friday, 3:30-5:00pm, June TBA)

Barbara’s Conservatory’s liturgical dancers, under the supervision of Madison Meenen, will lead this one-week workshop ideal for ages 4-10 years old (we will accept dancers over the age of 10). Dancers will learn more about praise and worship dance, see a performance by Cleargold, learn a liturgical dance, make a craft, and have a healthy snack each day. The workshop will end with a celebration where parents are invited to attend the last class of the workshop to see a liturgical performance by Cleargold and the dancers attending the camp.

Summer Dress Code

Female students are required to have hair securely tied back from the face in a bun. Please label dance supplies and do not leave valuables in the dressing rooms. We cannot be responsible for personal items left unattended. If students dress at home, a cover-up must be worn outside the studio.

Ballet & Creative Ballet

Females: Black or Colored Leotard (During the school year, black short or long sleeved leotards with no skirts are required for students 3 to 10 years old), Pink Tights, and Pink Ballet Shoes

Males: T-shirt, Black Tights, Dance Belt (for intermediate and advanced students), and Black Ballet Shoes

 

Other styles of dance: Leotard and Tights with cover-ups at the discretion of the instructor.
