January 2017

Lacee, our entire staff, and myself hope everyone had a joyful and rejuvenating winter break. We want to congratulate Madison Meenen, a teacher at the conservatory, who gave birth to Aaron Michael Meenen on Jan 7th. He loves being held, listening to music, and car rides!

January is a busy month at the studio. Lacee and I spent the first couple weeks picking out and ordering recital costumes and finalizing the order of our 2:00 and 5:00 performances. Pictures of the costumes are displayed in the playroom and the dance order is posted on the office door.

Our new beginning classes started January 18th, but we will continue enrolling new students through the end of February. These students will also have the opportunity to dance in our spring recital at TPAC. If a new student enrolls giving your name as a reference, you will receive a $10 credit on your account.

The annual Ballet Midwest Company Dancer auditions were held on January 21st. Congratulations to our returning Company Dancers, our alumni returning dancers – Sierra DeYoung, Amelia Ellsworth, and Maddison Williams, and our new dancers Sydney Alexander, Leona Bohn, Malcolm Davis, Alexander Faught, Arwen Gleason, William Hubka, Kaya Pyle, Keillor Roberts,Jeremy Shapel, Hannah Watkins, and Zoie Wright. A potluck was held on Saturday, January 28th to welcome the new dancers and parents.

We had three excellent master classes offered in ballet and contemporary for students ten years of age and older as of January 29th. The teacher, Ellie Goudie-Averill, was a former Ballet Midwest dancer who has her Masters in dance. She dances professionally as well as choreographs and teaches in multiple colleges. Miss Ellie gave wonderful classes that were thoroughly enjoyed by the 50 students who attended.

Casting will be released this week for spring ballet, "Swan Lake". "Swan Lake" will be performed at TPAC April 21st for TPAC's Schooltime series, and again on April 22nd at 1:00 for our Children's 1st Ballet performance. The full-length "Swan Lake" will be presented April 22nd at 8:00 pm and again on April 23rd at 3:00 pm.

Ballet Midwest Junior Company auditions will be held Saturday, February 4th, for ballet dancers 11 years of age and older, or in the 5th grade. The Junior Company gives dancers a chance to experience many of the opportunities and responsibilities of dancing with a company. It is an excellent introduction for dancers who would like to audition for Ballet Midwest in the future. These dancers will also have a Meet and Greet at the studio Friday, February 10th, at 6:00pm for dancers and their parents.

Friday afternoon homeschool lessons will start February 10th with Gina Mangiaracino teaching two ballet and four liturgical classes. These classes are offered in ten weekly sessions for new!and!returning students four to twelve years of age.

We look forward to an exciting semester!
Sincerely,
